Online Psychotherapy for Adults in the UK

Online psychotherapy makes sustained, considered work possible when travelling to an in-person session is not practical. Sessions run for 50 minutes over secure video, and follow the same structure as in-person work.

Who online work may suit

  • Adults in the UK who cannot easily attend in-person sessions in Edinburgh.
  • People who value the continuity of meeting at the same time each week.
  • People whose schedules make an online session significantly more sustainable.
  • People who prefer to work from a familiar environment.

How online sessions are arranged

Once we agree to work together, I will send you a link and clear practical instructions before your first session. Sessions run at the same day and time each week wherever possible.

Privacy and an appropriate room

Online psychotherapy requires a private, quiet space where you can speak freely and are not likely to be interrupted. This matters for the same reason it matters in person: sessions rely on being able to say what you feel without editing yourself.

The difference between psychotherapy and informal video support

Online psychotherapy is not the same as a supportive call, a coaching call or an app. It is a sustained clinical relationship, held to the same professional standards as in-person practice, with the same expectations around consistency, confidentiality and fees.

Technical expectations

  • A stable internet connection.
  • A laptop, tablet or computer with a working microphone and camera.
  • Headphones can help with both audio quality and privacy.

The first session

The initial online session follows the same shape as an in-person initial session. It is a paid 50-minute meeting in which we discuss what has brought you to therapy, you can ask questions, and we can consider together whether ongoing work is likely to be useful.

UK availability

Online sessions are available to adults based in the UK. Please let me know in advance if you expect to attend a session while abroad, so we can consider together whether continuing during that period is appropriate.

You do not need to have everything worked out before getting in touch.

A brief enquiry is enough to begin. You can share what has brought you here, ask a question and find out whether an initial session may be appropriate.
